You may qualify for a cash-back tax credit! The expanded California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) is now bigger and better. This tax credit provides eligible families a cash-back credit designed to put money in the pockets of low-income working families and individuals.

The earned income tax monies may be used for household and personal expenses. Claiming the credit is easy, eligible taxpayers only need to file a state tax return. You can even visit one of the local tax preparation sites to receive assistance and have your taxes filed for free.

For the 2017 tax year, many more families are eligible for the expanded credit. Families earning up to $22,300 may qualify for the credit, which is a dramatic increase of the upper income limit over past years. Plus, for the first time, individuals who earned self-employment income in 2017 may qualify.

CalEITC was created by the Governor and the Legislature as a supplement to the federal EITC, it took effect starting with calendar year 2015 tax returns. The amount of cash-back credit depends on income and family size. You may also be eligible for the federal EITC if you have income of $54,000 or less.
