CDCR PARTICIPATES IN  CALIFORNIA DAY OF PREPAREDNESS

SURVIVING THE WILD WEST #CAPrepDay – August 26, 2017

The massive heat did not deter an important event from happening in Old Sac this past weekend. On Saturday, August 26, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s (CDCR) Emergency Planning and Management Unit (EPMU), in partnership with Cal OES and many other federal, state, and local planning partners, participated in the 12th Annual California Day of Preparedness, Surviving the Wild West.

California is prone to earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and many other disasters.  This event is organized to provide education and information to help local residents and families to prepare for the next disaster.  This event
kicks-off National Preparedness Month.  Visitors had the opportunity to learn about emergency preparedness as well as experience a variety of disaster readiness demonstrations including a mobile earthquake simulator, watch water rescues, and see the skills of search and rescue dogs in action.

Sergeant Chris Drake from Mule Creek State Prison’s Crises Response Team, and
Emergency Services Coordinator Courtland Ellis from EPMU.

The EPMU oversees departmental emergency planning, preparedness, response and recovery needs and manages the Department Operations Center.  The EPMU is one of six sub-units of the Office of Correctional Safey (OCS).  The OCS mission is to protect the public and serve the CDCR investigative and security interests. The OCS is the primary departmental link with allied law enforcement agencies and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
